TIC 101: Foundations and Applications of Trauma-Informed Care

Foundations and Applications of Trauma-informed Care is designed to provide basic foundational knowledge of trauma-informed care with faith-based applications from leading Christian experts in the field. Based on SAMSHA’s principles of a trauma-informed approach, this course covers a wide variety of topics applicable to mental health professionals, pastors, coaches, teachers, healthcare workers and anyone providing direct care to hurting people.

PTSD 2.0

Students will gain a further understanding of suffering and its relation to trauma while recognizing there is a purpose in suffering. PTSD 2.0 covers the different types of trauma and PTSD, identifying symptoms and treatments for each, as well as distinguishing assessment instruments and therapies for PTSD. Anger and aggression, components of PTSD, are discussed in detail while examining anger management skills and therapies, and evaluating the symptoms and treatments for both PTSD and Complex PTSD.

Sexual Abuse 2.0

This course is designed to help counselors better understand the different types of abuse, the healing process and treatment of sexual trauma, and how post-traumatic symptoms can be stabilized when dealing with complex, relational trauma, both in the initial phase of counseling as well as the trauma processing. Sexual Abuse 2.0 examines the signs and symptoms of abuse, as well as assessment parameters, counseling strategies, treatment considerations, and biblical solutions for those who work with this population.

Self-Harm 2.0: The Assessment and Treatment of Nonsuicidal Self-Injury

An explosion of research on self-harm in the last two decades has clarified understanding of this behavior and led to advances in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. This course covers foundational information needed by mental health professionals to screen, assess and treat clients who engage in Nonsuicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). Special consideration and attention are given to the relationship between NSSI and suicidal behavior to provide insight and understanding that is critical to appropriate care and suicide risk management.
